Whats the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Myobloc all act in the same way to block the activation of muscle. By using very small doses in the muscles of the face, (forehead, brow, crows feet) Botox can smooth lines and make you look younger, more relaxed, and rested.
Why does Botox® work?
We all age in 3 ways. Our skin gets sun spots, we lose volume (fat), and we lose elasticity of our skin. All of these are determined by your heritage and your degree of exposure to the environment (sun, smoke, etc).
As our brow begins to descend with age, our upper eyelids send signals to our forehead to raise our brow. This is great for vision but eventually leads to lines on our forehead. Botox relaxes these muscles and smooths forehead lines.
Frown lines (11's)
The vertical lines in between our eyebrows (Glabella) as well as the crease across the bridge of our nose is the result of over activity from squinting or worry. Freezing these muscles, can smooth the Glabellar frown lines (the 11).
Crows feet are also the result of muscles, volume loss and poor elasticity of our skin. The muscle in this case helps us to forcefully close our eyes but many times also become activated when we smile. Weaken the muscle and eliminate crows feet.
What can I expect after Botox® injections?
The effects of botox will be seen 3-7 days after the injection. Larger muscles tend to take longer to relax than smaller muscles. It is best after your injection to avoid any strenuous activity for the rest of the day. You can resume all of your regular activities the following day. Most people enjoy the effects of botox for 3-4 months, and rarely if you’re lucky, it may even last for 6 months.
Will I be charged per unit of Botox®?
No. We prefer to treat an “area”. The forehead is 1 area, the glabellar frown lines are one area and the crows feet together are one area. We believe that everyone that uses botox wants a more relaxed, rejuvenated appearance. You should not be penalized if your body requires more medication than another patient.
There are additional areas that can be addressed (lines around the mouth, platysmal bands, masseter muscles), but the forehead and lines around our eyes tend to be the best targets for facial rejuvenation.
